To stay competitive in a complex world, ore and mining companies have to continuously minimize the use of resources  and optimize production to maximize production. At the same time, keeping in mind the stringent norms, local regulations and the delicate balance of the environment around the process plant.

One such plant making Petcoke is located on the banks of the river Brahmaputra (also the 9th largest river in the world). With its proximity to natural habitat, special care was required while handling this requirement for the customer.

This Petcoke plant was facing a problem with high environmental emissions. The plant operations team approached Ecomak to help resolve this problem.

Conventionally, in most cases, kiln exhaust is fitted with a Bag House System or an Electrostatic Precipitator System. However, keeping in mind the location of the unit, a team of experts from Ecomak was able to survey the area and suggested to harness the water which was available in abundance easily. To take advantage of this situation, the company supplied a Venturi Scrubber instead of any conventional system.

About the Venturi Eco-Scrubber

A Venturi scrubber is designed to effectively use the energy from the inlet gas stream to atomize the liquid being used to scrub the gas stream. A Venturi scrubber consists of three sections:

  1. Converging section
  2. Throat section
  3. Diverging section

Particle and gas removal occur in the throat section as the inlet gas stream mixes with the fog of tiny liquid droplets. The inlet stream then exits through the diverging section, where it is forced to slow down. Venturi Scrubbers can be used to collect both particulate and gaseous pollutants. Ecomak is capable to provide Venturi Eco Scrubbers up to 3,00,000 Am3/hr.

This system on Petcoke calcination is a first of a kind system in India. The customer expressed their satisfaction with the performance of the system.
